If you have any music you’d like to add to the general background music during the afternoon please drop round a CD or MP3 to number 39 asap or bring to the next meeting.

We hope to stick all the bunting together and use it every year).

NEWSLETTER JUNE 5th 2015

FUNDING: It looks like funding will be tight this year, so more than ever we’ll rely on the raffle (and possibly tombola) to help cover costs. If anyone can donate items we can use as prizes please drop them off  … (we’ll probably do a door-to-door collection in a couple of weeks).

MARQUEE DECORATIONS: If you are storing any stuff from last year’s party could you have a look to see if you’ve got any of the decorations last year (especially the large paper globes) and let us know. All decorations will need to be out by lunchtime so we can start decorating the Marquee in time.

COMPETITIONS: Kids and Adults ‘Bake Off (theme to be announced shortly). Also the ‘best kept front garden’ award is on again, with judging being carried out in advance on an unspecified day just to shake things up a bit!

GAMES: there’s be the usual games for all ages including tug of war, egg and spoon race, three legged race, space hopper races and possible new entries might include ‘beer goggles’ races …

ENTERTAINMENT: there’ll be face painting and other kids entertainment during the afternoon (more details to follow), background music all day and DJs later on to get us all up and dancing in the evening.

FOOD AND DRINK: Just bring out what you can to share on the day. Invite your friends and family and hope for great weather.

ROAD CLOSURE: the application is with the council and we’re hoping the road should be closed to through traffic to make it safe for everyone. As usual we’re asking people to move their vehicles to either end of the street by lunchtime to make space for the event.

MEETINGS: EVERY THURSDAY 8PM AT THE COPPERMILL (IN THE BEER GARDEN IF THE WEATHER PERMITS).

Newsletter May 22 2015.

[Online version of newsletter being delivered this weekend:-]

A few weeks ago a questionnaire was posted to every house and flat on the street asking if people would like another street party this year.  We’ve now collated the responses and all say YES to another party this year.

We also asked people to tell us their preferred date or dates for the event, and which dates they couldn’t make it. Based on the responses, it looks like the best date for the event is (drumroll) …

SATURDAY 11TH JULY

3PM – 11PM.

This doesn’t leave us much time to organise the event, so any help you can offer will be much appreciated!

Clifford has already submitted the road closure and insurance application and put in a bid for a small amount of funding to help cover the cost of materials.

There were a number of suggestions for events and activities provided in the questionnaire responses.

Events from last year that were suggested as good ideas again for this year included the space hopper race, Bake Off, Best Front Garden, face painting (update – and tug-of-war).

Suggestions for new events included Slowest cycle race, walking with several glasses of water (how much water left in glasses), grand finale disco (various music), sumo racing, entertainment under the shelter if needed due to weather, bouncy castle, salsa music, barn dance (with caller), gardening the verge, hula hooping, puppet show, art installation created during the day, ceildh/some other kind of dance, activities based at The Mill.

We might not have much time to organise all of these! If anyone can help please come along to the first proper planning meeting, to be held

THURSDAY 28 MAY 8PM COPPERMILL PUB.

AS WITH ALL PREVIOUS EVENTS, ALL NEIGHBOURS AND THEIR FRIENDS ARE INVITED AND THERE IS NO ENTRANCE FEE. ALL WE ASK IS THAT YOU BRING ALONG SOME FOOD AND/OR DRINK TO SHARE ON THE DAY AND HELP WITH TIDYING UP PLATES, CANS ETC AS THE DAY GOES ON (TO AVOID A MASSIVE CLEAR UP AT THE END OF THE NIGHT).

Date set for 2015 Summer Street Party

We’ve been through all the questionnaire responses and checked door-to-door and it would appear the best (or least worst!) date for the majority of residents is:-

Saturday July 11th 2015.

Details of suggested events and activities will be posted soon once we’e managed to collate all the ideas.

This doesn’t give us much time to organise things, so any help people can offer will be very much appreciated. Especially if you know a good, lively band that are mainly acoustic (i.e. don’t need much of a PA) and could entertain us in the evening – maybe a Ceildh band who can get everyone dancing, or a ukelele-based punk orchestra, a skiffle-based ska band …  you get the idea – we’re talking lo-fi and low budget (expenses &  we’ll keep you in food and beer). Get in touch via this site or drop a note round to number 11.
