AHEAD Charity Bike Ride / Walk this Sunday

Reminder: This Sunday our green space will be the location for the start and end of the annual AHEAD charity walk and bike ride. Our neighbour Roy explains “A small charity I’m involved in is again running a charity bike ride from our green in early July. All are welcome to join and take part. It’s a relatively small event and is mainly off-road across the marshes and into Victoria and Mile End park before returning to the green.”

AHEAD say “The event aims to  raise funds to build a hostel for disadvantaged girls in Oromia, Ethiopia, who otherwise would be unable to access secondary school education. Enjoy a great day out across the new and old of North East London; keep fit and support a great cause!”

For more information and details on how to register go to The AHEAD site.

Street Party planning begins.

Coots update (the birds formerly known as Moorhens).

After three attempts to build nests and incubate eggs, only to have all their hard work washed away following massive rainfall, we are cautiously optimistic about the fourth attempt. It is in a huge branch that has become lodged in the channel and built quite high up. They’ve been there for a couple of weeks now.

Cygnet rescued.

Some of you will be aware that a Cygnet somehow became seperated from its parents recently and has been hanging around the flood relief. Tonight, thanks to Claire around the corner, it was rescued and is heading for a sanctuary.
