Funding
Each year the costs of the event have been covered through donations and money raised in the raffle. This year we were encouraged to apply for funding from the council, so we submitted bids to help pay for things to make our 5th anniversary event special, including the hire of a marquee & stage, tables & chairs, generator, lighting, PA, decorations, bands and a professional karaoke system. After the bids were submitted the council decided to allocate £500 to each street for any events held during the year, which leaves £250 available for the annual event on July 21st. This is a much lower amount than we’d hoped but it’s still money we’ve never had before.

We’ve got £128.21 left over from last year and this year we don’t have to pay for Public Liability Insurance (which saves around £50-£60). We’ll still need to raise some money to help cover costs of items such as materials for the marquee, decorations, lighting and payment for musicians, so it looks like we’ll be asking people to donate raffle prizes again. Someone will be calling around for any raffle prize donations you might have nearer the date. We appreciate it’s a lot to ask this year so please do not feel you have to donate anything.

Events

The live music line-up so far is the folk band PaperFishBand at 3pm, the Ceildh band The Stowicks at 5pm and Lee Claydon at 7pm. We’ll hold the raffle around 8pm. We aim to start the adults Karaoke about 9pm with an extra session for kids earlier on. There’ll also be the usual on-going games and events throughout the day. (We’ve just discovered the Olympic Torch passes through the borough around 7pm on the 21st so we might have a re-think about the event timings to give people chance to get to see the torch if they want to. We’ll discuss this at the next meeting.)

Fancy Dress

Do you like the idea of fancy dress for this special anniversary event? As an incentive, we have £20.00 vouchers from Love To Shop to offer as prizes for one lucky child (up to age 16) and one lucky adult (age 16 and over) judged as having the best outfit. Judging will probably be around 6pm for the children’s fancy dress and 8pm for the adults. The theme is anything or anyone associated with Walthamstow & East London.

The Great Elmfield Road Bake Off
We’ll put more information about this in the next newsletter.

Marquee Decoration
Please come out and help decorate the marquee and the street at 1pm. Make your own decorations or use materials we’ll provide on the day.

Photo display.
As this is our 5th anniversary we thought it would be nice to have a photo gallery of all the events so far. If you have any photos of previous events that we could use please email them in or drop copies round to number 79.

As usual entry is free to all residents and their guests. All we ask is that you enjoy the event, bring your family and friends and, if you can, bring out some food or drink to share. As usual, for more information look at http://www.elmfieldroad.wordpress.com or come to the weekly meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Coppermill.
