New extension to Walthamstow Market – St James Street Hub starts on March 31st.

For the first time in years, Walthamstow Market will soon extend to cover the St James Street end of the High Street. This ‘St James Street Hub’ aims to offer an “exciting new mix of stalls, offering street food, deli food, vintage, crafts, up-cycling and other curiosities”. The new ‘hub’ starts on Saturday 31st March. Many of the stall holders will be local people who would really appreciate it if we all turn out on the launch day.

If you are reading this but aren’t local to the area, here’s how you can get to the new St James Hub when it launches on March 31st:

St James Street is the nearest station. It’s overland but accepts Oyster cards. Catch an overground train (Chingford Line) from Liverpool Street, Bethnal Green, Hackney Downs, Clapton, Walthamstow Central, Wood Street, Highams Park or Chingford to St James Street Station. Trains are usually every 15 minutes and it takes about 10-15 minutes to get from Liverpool Street to St James Street.

If you want to use the tube, get the Victoria Line to Walthamstow Central and walk down the High Street, or to Blackhorse Road and walk along Blackhorse Road towards the high street (or get the 158/230 bus outside the station towards St James Street, gettintg off at the International Supermarket).

Buses 158 and 230 both stop at the bottom of the High Street near to the new hub.

Cycling is really easy from Hackney, Stoke Newington, Tottenham etc- just find Springfield Marina and cycle through the marshes down Coppermill Lane until you reach ‘The Mill’ – you’ll be able to see the market in front of you.

Use the postcode E17 7LD as a destination when using online services such as TFL, Cycle Streets or The AA.

Elmfield Bee Road

Now that spring is in the air, Debbie aims to soon start working on a ‘Bee Road‘ along the fence on the green area. This will be a strip of ‘bee friendly’ wild flowers  to help provide a habitat that bees can use to survive. If you see her out there digging I’m sure she’d appreciate some help.
